About the Book

The mountainous land of Evrytania, a province in central Greece, has an illustrious history. Although Evrytanians are justifiably proud of this history from Ottoman times, World War II, and up to the present, many people are unaware that this history is in fact much more ancient. This book states that the region was first settled around 5,000 years ago, and describes the first Evrytanians, their customs, and their first king, Evrytos, after whom the Evrytanians are named. The book also describes how the people of Evrytania fought and won existential battles to save the entire Greek people, not just their civilization, in 279 BC. As this book explains, if the Evrytanians had lost these battles, the Greek nation would have been lost. Especially instrumental were the brave women of Evrytania!.

From the Foreword by Kostas Bakoyannis, Mayor of Athens

“Within the pages of the book you hold in your hands, the author and the translator want to let the reader learn about the birth of Evrytania, the myths and legends surrounding it, the long-lived traditions, as well as the great history revealed by the archaeological findings so far. Ancient Kallion, Kokallia, Oichalia, Evrytos, Hercules, the heroic women of Aetolia, and all the history and culture of ancient Evrytania will travel to the other side of the world… This book should be part of the library of all Evrytanians, but also of the library of everyone who loves and respects history, and especially Greek history.”
